CB Local Eats Bucket List

After what feels like a blink of an eye, we are approaching the last week of summer. Before we know it we will be enjoying hot chocolate instead of milkshakes.

To help you make the most out of the last week of summer, we’ve created the ultimate CB Local Eats Bucket List! From local favourites to fun date ideas, our bucket list was crafted for all to enjoy. Share your memories with us using #cbeatsbucketlist.

1. Eat the Maritime famous donair

Invented in the heart of Halifax, the donair has been a maritime favourite since the 1970s. It is now a staple menu item at many Cape Breton pizza shops.

2. Try Vegan for a day

Plant-based eats are growing in popularity thanks to restaurants like JJ's Plant Based Eats! The owners created a comfortable space for vegans to order without worry and for those looking to step outside of their comfort zone. You can even complete two bucket list items at once by ordering their famous donair!

3. Get bottomless brunch

Not only is brunch delicious, it is also a great way to save money. Why buy both breakfast and lunch when you can buy brunch!

4. Eat cupcakes for breakfast

There is no better way to start the day than with a fun, delicious treat. Cupcake connoisseurs, Not Just Cakes Sweet Studio, make perfect cupcakes every time and have a variety of flavours everyone will love.

5. Try food from another country

Food is a great way to share and enjoy different cultures. With so many amazing new restaurants opening in Cape Breton, there are plenty of options to choose from.

6. Enjoy a local beer or cider on a patio

With COVID restrictions easing, what better way to spend time with friends and family than a local patio with your favourite local drinks! Round up your bubble and try out some local craft beer and cider brewed right here on Cape Breton Island.

7. Get your family BBQ delivered

Love BBQ but hate the work and mess that comes with it? Relax this summer and have your backyard family BBQ delivered!

8. Try Selkie’s famous Big Fat Cinnamon Buns!

Whether you have visited Selkie's Neighbourhood Diner or follow them on social media, you have probably heard of their "Big Fat Cinnamon Buns"! This is a menu item you will not regret trying and they are finally available on CB Eats.

9. Enjoy a summer-inspired salad

Add sweet, juicy, freshness to your lunchtime salad with summer berries. Not only are they delicious and healthy, but they also make for a sweet social media pic.

10. Have a pizza-eating contest with friends

Let the games begin! We all know Cape Breton pizza is the best in the country–maybe even the world. Spice up your next pizza order by challenging your friends to a pizza eating contest!

11. Order CB Eats on Toonie Tuesday

13. Enjoy an office lunch with co-workers

Spending hot summer days in the office can be tough. Why not make the most of it by sharing lunch with your favourite office co-workers!

14. Have breakfast for supper

Who doesn't love breakfast? But something about breakfast for supper just hits different!

15. Eat a fancy poutine

Poutine has always been a Canadian delicacy. Some restaurants decided to take it a step further and have added some pretty tasty toppings to the Canadian classic. Hamburger, donair, chicken, and even seafood poutine are among the many popular creations available at some restaurants in Cape Breton. What fancy poutine will you try?

16. Try Nova Scotian mussels

Harvested from the pristine waters along the coast of our beautiful province, Nova Scotia mussels are truly an international favourite.

17. Have a Deli inspired lunch

There is nothing more nostalgic than a deli sandwich on a hot August afternoon. Whether you're at the beach or in the office, grab a sammy and enjoy the last week of summer.

18. Eat ice cream for every meal

We're expecting some warm days here in Cape Breton this week. Cool off with your favourite cone... or two or three. Sometimes it's just so hot outside that you have to eat ice cream for every meal.

19. Pick up your favourite meal on your way to the Cabot Trail

The Cabot Trail offers beautiful trails and scenery no matter where you look. Take your local favourites on the road to enjoy your own Cabot Trail picnic. Order ahead on CB Eats and your lunch will be ready when you arrive!

20. Support a local restaurant you have yet to try

We are continuously amazed by the phenomenal local restaurants we have on Cape Breton Island. The past year and a half has been hard on our restaurant community, and we encourage you all to support local as we come out on top of this pandemic!
